This world is full of lots of people saying a lot of things.  People are more confused about their identity than any other time period in history. I believe that is because the enemy (Satan) doesn’t want the people of God to rise up and walk into their destiny that our Father in heaven has destined for each of us.  If I asked you, “Who are you?”, what would you say?  I want to propose that the enemy is coming against us with subtle lies (and some blatant ones) that are actually keeping us in fear and causing us delay from stepping into our God given calling. Is there a lie you’re believing about your life without realizing it?

One of the most common areas in our thought lives, where we tend to believe lies, is about ourselves and our identity. Sooner or later, most people have thoughts like these: “I’m so ugly,” or “I’ll never achieve this goal,” or “Compared to them, I’m nothing,” or maybe “I am not worthy because of what I’ve done.” Other negative thoughts might be: “Nobody cares about me,” or “That promise is not for me,” or “I am totally abandoned.” Possibly we can think, “The world would be better off without me here screwing it up,” or “I’ll never be free from this addiction.”

These are all lies. Funny how they all sound like your own thoughts. With hurtful thoughts like these, we can rule out the source being the Holy Spirit. Whether they are originating from a demonic source or yourself, we know these are lies. If you have fallen into the place of “if you think it, it must be your own thought,” it’s important to realize you may be partnering with lies from the enemy. Lies want to stay hidden in the darkness. When we recognize a lie that is contrary to what the Bible says, we need to get it into the light. How do we do this? Tell someone what you are dealing with, quickly. Once the lie has exposure to the light, you can break agreement with it and gain freedom from that bondage.

When God speaks, confusion fades. In order to know how He speaks, we study the Word. The Bible is filled with truths about what God says about you:

  • It says you are created in the image of God (Gen. 1:27).
  • You are beautiful to Jesus! (Song of Songs 4:7).
  • You are His masterpiece (Eph. 2:10).
  • Jesus lives in you through the Holy Spirit (Gal. 2:20).
  • You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Phil. 4:13).
  • You’ve been chosen for a special purpose and destiny (Deut. 7:6).
  • Jesus made you worthy (Rev. 3:4).
  • Nothing can separate you from the Love of God (Rom. 8:39).
  • You are never alone because the Lord will never leave you or forsake you (Deut. 31:6).
  • When you believe the truth, the truth will set you free (John 8:32)

When we come under the influence of a lie in our thinking or belief, we are held captive by it. As we believe the liar (Satan), we come under his influence.

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

Romans 6:16 NLT

Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.

2 Timothy2:25-26NLT

But there is HOPE. The moment we break agreement with the lie and, instead, partner with the truth of the Word, miracles are released, and prison doors are opened.

For example, one day I was in Home Depot and I met an employee in the lighting isle. We began to talk and I asked her if she needed a miracle for anything in her life. She said, “YES! I want to quiet smoking! I’ve tried everything and nothing has worked for me.” So I explained that sometimes we believe lies and that puts us into agreement with things like addictions, sicknesses, and fears. (Romans 6:16). So I prayed for her and she repeated some declarations such as “I break agreement with the lie that I’ll never be free from smoking. The blood of Jesus given for me, has made a way to receive salvation, healing, and freedom. I tell the addiction to smoking to leave me now in the authority and name of Jesus Christ. I am free! I am free! I am free!” We could both feel the presence of God there in the lighting isle. She thanked me, wiping away the tears. Eight weeks later, I was in Home Depot again and ran into her. She ran up to me and said, “Do you remember me?? You prayed for my smoking addiction and I haven’t even wanted one since that day! I really am free!” We praised God together and marveled how coming into agreement with the freedom God wants for us changes everything.

You have a Father in heaven who adores you.  In fact, He loves you so much that He gave his only son Jesus to die for YOU to rescue you from the sin that keeps you in bondage.  He longs to whisper His love to you.  To tell you who you are to Him.  To give you vision for who He created you to become and to step into the calling He’s made you for.  A few excerpts in this blog were taken from my new book called The Voice of Truth.

Hearing God’s still small voice is paramount in every Christian’s life.  Deciphering HIS voice amidst all the noises and lies is so important for all of us, especially when it comes to understanding and believing who God says we are in Christ.  When God speaks, confusion fades, lies are exposed, and you encounter an unconditional love you have never known before.

God is Speaking.
